#65 closed enhancement (fixed)

paravm should have autoinstall images

Reported by: price Owned by: price
Priority: critical Milestone: Public Beta
Component: autoinstallers Version:

Description

There's two ways to create an image -- create it from the host, or run the installer. We should try to support both for paravms, as we do already for HVMs. This ticket is for the first way.

Probably the image will look a lot like the existing images, but with a paravm kernel.

Eric and I spent the post-hackathon hours of tonight (is there such a thing?) working on a debootstrap solution to make it sane for us to manage many autoinstaller images. There's an almost-script (i.e., you should read, and copy and paste into a shell) in black-mesa:/root/debootstrap that does most of the job. Currently it's giving an error when we boot the resulting VM, but it's 6 AM and we'll debug another time.

Pleasantly, the whole process seems to take less than 5 minutes. This will be good for a sane fix/retry cycle in maintaining these images.

Eric finished this in June. It's live.
